Mena Zaminsky, PsyD, MFT

A welcome message from Andrea Orozco, HFNC's Executive Director and the Female Factor Retreat Directors: Shellye Horowitz, Shelley Jajeh, and Connie Mendoza.  Then the YouNote experience with Mena Zaminsky, PsyD, MFT.


Mena Zaminsky holds a Doctorate of Psychology in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy.  She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Expressive Arts Therapist and an Addictions Treatment Counselor. She has a psychotherapy private practice, currently virtual, but formerly in San Francisco and Berkeley, with a strong somatic focus and a specialty in both trauma and working with couples.  Mena has training in Hakomi, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Psycho-physical Therapy, Polyvagal Informed Treatment and EMDR, among other trainings.

Mena’s other experience includes being the Director of Outpatient Services for Walden House, working under Health Care for the Homeless at the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic and serving as Associate Director of the Addictions Counselor Certificate Program at City College of San Francisco, where, from  2001 through 2018, she worked as an adjunct faculty member and served on their Community Advisory Board.  Mena has taught at JFK and CIIS Universities and has taught workshops on Trauma and the Creative Process and Addictions and the Creative Process.  She is a former board member and newsletter co-chair for the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association. 

From 2016 – 2018, Mena was the Program Chair and served on the Board of Directors of the Northern California Community for Emotionally Focused Therapists (NCCEFT), and is currently their Continuing Education Coordinator.   She is currently working towards her Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT) certification. 

In her free time, Mena likes being outdoors, walking, hiking and enjoy her new love of kayaking. She loves attending live concerts and performances (pre-Covid), socializing and spending time with the people in her life that she loves, as well as with her dog, Moe, who also served as a therapy dog for previously in-person sessions. She is drawn to Jewish Meditation and yoga and has a passion for learning. Mena’s creative world has included cooking, playing guitar, songwriting, poetry writing and ceramic art.
