As a first-generation Latina raised in Oakland, I have served marginalized and disadvantaged communities of color, particularly children, youth, and families. I have worked in different settings, such as a child welfare, hospital, non-profit agencies, school-based programs, and residential facilities through both my professional and internship experience. In 2016, as a volunteer at what used to be known as Children’s Hospital Oakland, I met a wonderful medical social worker who showed me what it was like to provide space for patients and their families who were not only experiencing outside stressors, but dealing with chronic illness also. From that point moving forward I knew that I wanted to become a medical social worker. I wanted to be able to support patients and families in any way I could. I am beyond grateful to be joining the team at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and look forward to meeting and serving the Hemophilia and Thrombosis community.
